“Nothing you do for children is ever wasted. They seem not to notice us, hovering, averting our eyes, and they seldom offer thanks, but what we do for them is never wasted.” - Garrison Keillor

Many of today’s youth are disoriented by the barrage of explicit media images and are confused as to what art is. They are often frustrated by their attempts to reproduce manufactured images or transfer their imagination without the support of any fundamental art training.

The Ashland Academy of Art offers an exceptional after school program for 7th to 12th graders. The classically based curriculum, (as described in our Program), is adapted to younger students whose parents are seeking a serious art education for their children.

The Academy program gently introduces young students to the fundamentals of art education while increasing their knowledge, curiosity and confidence. In this class they will experience the satisfaction that comes from working diligently on a project and seeing the fruits of their imaginations realized. Students will work in various mediums on still life and live model (costumed). They will also explore great works of art by contemporary and historic masters through art history lectures, slides and films. Class size is kept small so each student has individual attention.

Young Masters Program, for ages 12 to 17, is taught by Sarah Burns.
Students and parents are encouraged to contact Sarah directly at 541 621 7767.

Classes are held at the Academy Mondays from 4-6 pm, and cost $150 per semester. Semester Schedule.
